Hello Mr/Ms Diary,

I don't know why this weird book appeared in my garden. Who is Diary? Why do they want to leave a book here? There's nothing other than the word 'Diary' on this thing.
Maybe writing on it would give me an answer?

I've left the book alone for a few minutes hoping for an answer. However, it didn't really do anything so I just searched what 'diary' is on Google.
To my surprise, it’s not an item that can give you any answers – it seems to be a type of journal that anyone who holds onto can write their thoughts on.
I still have no clue as to why it’s named 'Diary' though. Or was it spelled ‘Dairy’?

Anyway, I might as well introduce myself to this unknown specimen called ‘Dairy’. My name is Diane Raine. I forgot how old I am.
Perhaps I am 18 in human age. On my planet, we don’t place much importance on our age. I'm from the Dionaea plant species, which are carnivorous in nature.
It originates from the planet Physene! It's quite far from Earth, but almost looks exactly like it. It's filled with rainforests and has a refreshing atmosphere!
I came to Earth because I have a respiratory condition. Unlike my home planet, Earth is richer in carbon dioxide, which I need more than other plant aliens.
When I first arrived on Earth, I passed by a large field of vegetables. They looked so beautiful and well-taken care of!
However, I saw the inhabitants of this planet harvest them and proceed to prepare them for consumption! I almost lashed out at them.
Such actions are vile and disgusting! I will never understand such monstrous entities dubbed as “herbivores” wanting to feast on plants! We have feelings too!
However, some plants are suited for nourishment for these beings…
After a long time mulling over it, I decided to start selling some of my vegetables to anyone who might be interested.
Going through my garden made me come to the realization that I no longer have any space to plant new vegetables.
I might as well use this opportunity to sell my harvests and earn a bit of money to maintain my humble garden and take care of my beloved flytraps.

Speaking of my flytraps, they're really cute! The two of them are attached to my pigtails and they're pretty intelligent.
They're large enough to devour someone's head, but light enough that I can walk around with ease! I gave them a math test once just for the fun of it…
To my surprise, they scored higher than I did!
The one with the yellow highlight is named “Scumpy”, short for “Scumpituous" and the one with the pink highlight is named "Apple", short for "Appercromble".
Apple is more reserved than Scumpy, who is a bit manic at times. Although they're really different, I love both of them equally.
We're not related, but they're brothers. They act as my personal bodyguards and additionally, my friends.
On the other hand, they can be a tad overprotective; they don’t like other humans getting too close to me.
I don’t know the reason why they dislike humans and it can be a little annoying at times.
Because of them, I have not been outside for many years. Occasionally, I get lonely.
When I do, I chat with people online through this laptop I own. It helps me to cope when I'm feeling down.
I wasn't very good at English when I first came to Earth, but the people on the internet helped me practise.
Maybe one day I can venture out and meet new friends...if my flytraps allow it. I read online that there are more aliens like me around here too!
I'm looking forward to meeting them.

Scumpy and Apple can eat or drink anything, but they often don't need to because I'm their source of nutrition.
During the spring seasons, flowers will sprout on my head. They grow up to a few meters on my head, at which point it becomes a little hard to walk around with.
Their stems are very tough- almost like metal cords, and are able to extend.

At times, the friends I've made online have asked me how I managed to keep myself alive without eating.
As a sentient venus flytrap plant, my main source of sustenance would of course be through photosynthesising.
Why do they find it so odd? Humans also gain vitamin D under sunlight and it’s a regular practice back on my planet.
Do they not photosynthesize as well?

Occasionally, I would stand next to exhaust pipes in factories in the countryside and photosynthesise.
They give out plenty of carbon dioxide and I believe I'm also playing a part in the "climate change" problem this planet has.

When I photosynthesize, my skin turns slightly yellowish from the sunlight.
A problem I have is that I don't breathe as much as "normal" as human data shows, because almost half of my air is taken in with the stomata under my hair.
They are similar to the leaves of succulent plants. Because of this, I can't run very fast.

Hmm...I’ve written all the information I know about myself in this book. Since I've already started writing in it, I’ll try to complete this diary soon.
Oh! I think I see 2 silhouettes heading in my direction. I should prepare myself for potential customers! I will now bid farewell, ‘Dairy’.

Your regards,

Diane Raine
P.S. I still do not know whether there's a difference between 'Dairy' and 'Diary'.
